Klein Nektar ticks all the urban-yet-rural boxes. Fringed by olive trees, and rugged mountains, this tranquil getaway is only a short stroll from the center of Montagu. This charming farm cottage offers accommodation for up to 4 guests in two bedrooms with Queen size beds, a bathroom with shower, an open plan farm style kitchen with fireplace, dining and lounge areas and a spectacular deep, shaded wrap around terrace. (Smoking permitted outdoors only. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate pets.)
When you stay at Klein Nektar you will experience the essence of Montagu. This quaint Little Karoo town was founded in 1851 on what was then the farm "Uitflucht". The first erven were sold along Long Street (Route 62) and, thanks to the Montagu Heritage Society, a few of these town farms still exist today. Klein Nektar is nestled in the olive grove of one of the most beautiful of these town farms.
Enjoy this 3ha estate - Walk along the Chardonnay vineyard, rose and flower beds, amble through the fruit orchard and citrus grove and see if you can spot our Endangered Riverine Rabbit in the olive grove. Look up at the majestic Langeberg mountains and hear the cry of the resident Fish Eagles as they fly along the Kingna River, which flows adjacent to the property.
Klein Nektar shares this amazing property with the original farm house, one of the oldest Cape Dutch style houses in Montagu, built in 1860. It is one of the national monuments that form part of the Historical Walk through Montagu and you will find details of the walk in your accommodation. You will enjoy many other fun things to do in this attractive Little Karoo town, many of which are within walking distance from your accommodation.
Montagu is quiet and safe enough to walk everywhere. Take an evening stroll from Klein Nektar through the town's peaceful streets to one of several restaurants for dinner. Alternatively light a fire and, while your steaks sizzle, sit back, enjoy a drink and watch the sunset colours transform the rocky mountain peaks that surround you. For breakfast we can highly recommend one of several farmstall type restaurants, which are situated only a few minutes walk from Klein Nektar.
Klein Nektar is off-the-grid. There is no Escom electricity and no TV, perfect for the jaded city dweller wanting to slow down. This does not mean that you won't have any modern conveniences. It just means you may find yourself going to bed a little earlier and waking up more refreshed and relaxed. Klein Nektar is equipped with a gas stove and oven, fridge and freezer, gas and solar lamps, hot and cold water, an indoor fireplace and a braai/bbq.
